MAN JAILED AFTER ADMITTING NON-RECENT INDECENT ASSAULTS ON TWO GIRLS
A 75-year-old man has received a prison sentence after being convicted of 21 indecent assaults carried out over two decades ago against two young girls.
Jeffrey Barrington, residing on Borley Crescent in Elmswell, admitted to the charges and appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday, May 15, for his sentencing hearing.
Regarding one victim, Barrington was found guilty of nine separate offences and was sentenced to seven years in prison for the primary offence.
The other charges were served concurrently, meaning they ran alongside this sentence.
For the crimes against the second girl, he was convicted of a main offence which carried a five-year sentence, again with other related charges being served concurrently.
These sentences are to be served consecutively to the first, resulting in a total sentence.
Altogether, Barrington was sentenced to 12 years, which was reduced to eight years due to his early guilty plea.
The total combined sentences, considering concurrent terms, amounted to 43 years.
Additionally, he received an extended sentence of one year on licence, a measure for more serious violent or sexual offenders requiring ongoing supervision after release to help prevent reoffending.
