FOSTER MUM JAILED FOR INDECENTLY ASSAULTING A SCHOOLBOY THREE DECADES AGO
Renowned foster carer Jean McGarry was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of indecent assault against a schoolboy over thirty years ago.
The 65-year-old, who had earned a reputation for caring for nearly 50 children throughout her career, was regarded with respect before her conviction.
The court heard that McGarry exploited her position of trust by engaging in inappropriate behavior with a 15-year-old boy, with whom she had previously exchanged flirtatious interactions.
According to findings at Newcastle Crown Court, McGarry forcibly mounted the victim, who was under the influence of gin, while they were walking through a secluded alley.
The assault was interrupted when a pedestrian happened upon the scene, ending the attack.
She was subsequently sentenced to 22 months in prison.
