JAY CREED FROM PORTHCURNO SENTENCED FOR ONLINE GROOMING AND CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN CORNWALL

In April 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Jay Creed, a 53-year-old man from Porthcurno, Cornwall, who was convicted of grooming an 11-year-old boy through online gaming platforms. The court heard that Creed engaged in a series of manipulative and exploitative actions, encouraging the young victim to produce explicit videos of himself on at least 20 separate occasions. These videos depicted the boy engaging in sexual activities, which Creed then used to manipulate and control him further.

Creed also supplied the boy with cryptocurrency, which he used to facilitate gaming activities, possibly as a means to maintain the child's engagement and secrecy. During the proceedings at Truro Crown Court, it was revealed that Creed referred to himself as a “sugar daddy” and maintained contact with other children, indicating a pattern of predatory behavior. The case came to light after the victim’s mother discovered suspicious activity on her son's devices and promptly contacted law enforcement authorities.

According to her statement, the mother expressed her distress over the profound impact the abuse had on her son, noting that he had become withdrawn, lost confidence, and was now fearful of social interactions. Law enforcement officers responded swiftly, and during their investigation, they had to forcibly enter Creed’s residence after observing him attempting to destroy his computer hard drive to conceal evidence. Creed’s actions prompted a thorough investigation, which confirmed his involvement in multiple criminal activities.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Simon Carr addressed the severity of Creed’s offenses. He emphasized that the victim was only 11 years old at the time of the abuse, while Creed was 53. The judge detailed how Creed exploited online gaming sites to groom the boy, encouraging him to engage in sexual acts such as masturbation, and rewarding him with cryptocurrency and links. Creed instructed the child to delete his internet history to avoid detection and referred to himself using terms like “daddy” or “sugar daddy,” further highlighting his manipulative tactics.

Judge Carr also pointed out Creed’s failure to cooperate with police, noting that he delayed providing access to his address and attempted to destroy evidence by hard drive. The court acknowledged the emotional toll on the victim’s mother, who described the loss of her son’s confidence and friendship due to Creed’s actions. Given Creed’s history of previous offenses against children and his status on the sex offenders’ register for life, the court deemed him a significant risk to the safety of children.

As a result, Creed was sentenced to an extended prison term of eight years, with an additional four years on license. His release will depend on the Parole Board’s assessment of his rehabilitation and risk to the public. The court also reviewed Creed’s criminal past, which included prior convictions for offenses against children, underscoring the dangerousness of his behavior. At the time of the latest offenses, Creed was already on the sex offenders’ register for life, reflecting the ongoing concern about his potential to reoffend.

Earlier in February 2021, Creed had admitted to encouraging a child to film himself masturbating, further illustrating his pattern of exploiting minors. He appeared at Truro Crown Court via video link from HMP Exeter, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and making indecent images of children, with the offenses occurring between August 2020 and January 2021. Creed has been in custody since his arrest and remains there pending sentencing scheduled for March 19. The court ordered a dangerousness assessment to be conducted, considering his criminal history, before finalizing his sentence.
