MAN FROM TREALAW SENTENCED TO 4 YEARS FOR VIOLENT AND CONTROLLING BEHAVIOUR TOWARDS PARTNER
A violent offender named Jason Youde, aged 37, from Trealaw, was found guilty of serious domestic abuse. He subjected his partner to years of abusive and controlling behaviour between November 2022 and August 2024, following an initially loving relationship that deteriorated due to his excessive drinking, jealousy, and possessiveness.
Over time, Youde became physically violent, often hitting and punching her in front of their children, and he controlled various aspects of her life, including her dress, social contacts, and phone use.
He called her degrading names like "slag," "slut," and "damaged goods."The court heard that Youde would routinely assault her and on one occasion, held her head under water, knowing she had a fear of drowning, which was described by the judge as almost sadistic behavior.
He also strangled her on multiple occasions, including when she was in the bath and pinned her to the sofa after strangling her neck.
The victim described feeling trapped and emotionally shattered, living with ongoing fear and despair, and battling mental health issues caused by his violence.
She expressed her feelings as: "I will never understand why he chose me?
Why me to abuse and manipulate.
...
I am angry because of how he made out I'm the monster knowing deep down what he did to me." Jason Youde was convicted of multiple charges including intentional suffocation, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and controlling or coercive behaviour.
He has nine previous convictions for violent offences, including assault, battery, harassment, and unlawful wounding, some against former partners.
Despite being returned to custody for breaching his license, he continued to reoffend upon release.
The court sentenced him to four years in prison, with an extended two-year license period, and imposed a five-year restraining order.During the sentencing, his defense argued he has mental health issues, including PTSD and ADHD, which they claim affected his conduct, and stated he maintains his innocence, claiming he was "wrongfully accused and wrongfully convicted."
