SEX ATTACKER JAILED FOR SEVEN YEARS AFTER RAPING YOUNG GIRL AT INVERKIP FLAT
A man responsible for sexually assaulting and abusing a young girl in Inverkip has been sentenced to seven years in prison.The 30-year-old, from Johnstone, initially touched and molested the girl, who was as young as eight at the time.
He later raped her at an apartment in Inverkip.
Wilkinson also sought out the young victim online, asking her to send nude photographs of herself.
Today, he was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow.
He had previously been found guilty of sexual assault, rape, and communicating indecently with a child, in incidents spanning from 2014 to 2022.
Judge Tony Kelly stated: "I consider your level of culpability as significant.
The age difference between you and the victim was considerable.
You raped her and instructed her not to tell anyone.
When she eventually disclosed what happened, it was reported and brought to light.
She undoubtedly experienced harm and trauma because of your actions." Wilkinson was placed on the sex offenders register and prohibited from making contact with the victim—both restrictions lasting indefinitely.
