MAN HAS BEEN JAILED FOR A PROLONGED ATTACK ON A WOMAN WHICH INCLUDED STRANGULATION.
On March 13, Plymouth Crown Court sentenced Jason Tooley from Bedford Park Villas to three years in prison. He will serve an additional two years under extended licence conditions after release.
A ten-year restraining order was also enacted to safeguard the victim involved.
Before sentencing, Tooley admitted to assault causing actual bodily harm and strangulation.
It was revealed that on December 4, 2023, Tooley met with the victim at Drake’s Reservoir, where he was found to be intoxicated and verbally hostile, resulting in him punching her.
In a subsequent visit later that day, arranged to reconcile, Tooley, now more intoxicated, assaulted the woman after she requested he leave his bicycle outside her flat.
He then attacked her by pushing, biting her multiple times, and pulling her hair, while shouting threats of killing her.
The assault proceeded into the bedroom, where he gagged her with a towel and strangled her, causing neck bruising.
The police were called after a neighbour, concerned by overheard sounds, contacted authorities.
At the time, Tooley was breaching bail conditions and was detained.
Plymouth’s domestic violence inspector, Christopher Kinski, commented on the case, stressing the police’s dedication to pursuing justice for domestic abuse victims.
He acknowledged the victim’s bravery in reporting her ordeal and expressed hope that the court’s decision would help her recover.
