Kilwinning Dalry Rapist
In March 2007, Jason Sneddon, a man with a troubling history of sexual misconduct, was sentenced to over six years in prison for a series of serious offenses. The sheriff presiding over the case described Sneddon as `a danger to the public,` emphasizing the severity of his actions and the threat he posed to the community.

Sneddon, aged 23 at the time, had recently been released from incarceration and was residing at the home of a young girl in Kilwinning. During a moment when her mother was temporarily away, answering the phone, Sneddon was left alone with the girl. It was during this vulnerable moment that the girl alleged Sneddon had indecently assaulted her. However, after a court hearing at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, Sneddon was acquitted of the charge of indecent assault but was convicted of engaging in lewd practices towards the young girl.

Further details revealed that Sneddon had met his second victim through staying at the same homeless hostel. The two had spent the night together at the victim’s mother’s house in Dalry, Ayrshire, after a drinking session. The following morning, the 18-year-old woman awoke to find Sneddon in a compromising situation—her duvet had been pulled off, and her shorts were around her ankles. Sneddon was preparing to engage in illicit sexual activity with her. The young woman immediately told him to `get to f***,` and later confided in her father about the incident. Her father insisted she contact the police, which she did.

Prosecutor Jason Bell stated during the trial that Sneddon had admitted his intention to have sex with the woman, even if she did not consent. This admission underscored the criminal nature of his actions and contributed to the severity of his sentencing. The case highlights the ongoing concerns about sexual offenders and the importance of protective measures for vulnerable individuals in communities such as Dalry and Kilwinning.
