JASON HILTON FROM BOREHAM JAILED FOR BREAKING COURT ORDER IN CHELMSFORD
In October 2011, Jason Hilton, a 41-year-old man from Boreham, was sentenced to jail after he deliberately violated a court-ordered ban related to his previous offenses. The police discovered his violations during an unannounced inspection of his computer, where monitoring software had been installed following his own admission of grooming and engaging in sexual activities with a 15-year-old girl.Previously, Hilton had been subject to a sexual offences prevention order that explicitly prohibited him from contacting any child under 18 via the internet. However, during the visit, officers found that the software had recorded three instances of Hilton communicating with young girls online. Chelmsford Crown Court was told that this contact ban was a key condition of his order.
Hilton admitted to breaching the order three times—on February 19, 22, and 25 of that year—and was subsequently sentenced to a total of one year in prison. Recorder Patricia Lynch QC stated, “Within a month of getting a new computer, you were back in chat rooms talking to young girls. Two of them were 16 and they were still children and they need protecting from people like you.”
The court also learned that Hilton had previously been given the sex offender order after admitting to grooming the 15-year-old girl from the Basildon area before meeting her for sexual activity. It was noted that Hilton, described as a lonely man with little to occupy his time during the day, often used his computer.
Aside from the jail term, the court confirmed that the existing banning order would remain in force.
