IRELAND OFFENDER JASON CORR JAILED FOR VIOLENT AND SEXUAL ASSAULT OF JOGGER
A violent offender named Jason Corr has been sentenced to prison for dragging a female jogger into the River Boyne and sexually assaulting her.The attack occurred on November 20, 2014, in Drogheda, Co Louth.
During the incident, Corr pounced on the woman during her morning run, which was along the river, and followed her after she initially noticed him running behind her.
The woman, who was wearing a high-visibility vest, became suspicious when Corr did not look like a typical jogger and was not dressed properly for running.
She decided to turn around after sensing danger.
Corr approached her, and after she handed over her iPod and Garmin watch, he advanced towards her without saying anything.
A struggle ensued as she tried to protect herself, and both fell into the river.
Corr admitted to pulling down her pants, claiming it was to retrieve her stuck iPod.
The victim suffered physical and psychological trauma, expressing fears of future encounters with men.
Corr, who was homeless at the time and had a history of multiple convictions (none for sexual assault), was assessed with a mild intellectual disability and felt remorse, apologizing in court.
He was sentenced to two and a half years in prison, with an additional two years of post-release supervision, and was placed on the sex offender register.
The sentence was delivered by Judge Michael O’Shea, who emphasized the seriousness of the offense and the trauma inflicted on the victim.
