BRUTAL DOMESTIC ABUSER JASON COLLEY JAILED FOR ATTACK AND THREATS
A violent assault saw a man subject his ex-girlfriend to a severe attack involving strangulation and physical violence.Jason Colley, who had a long history of violent conduct toward women in his relationships, attacked his former partner after she visited his residence in Clay Lane, Breighton, East Yorkshire, seeking to retrieve a video he had threatened to publicize.
According to HullLive, the woman had been harassed by Colley, who called her up to 40 times daily, threatening to share an intimate video on social media that would embarrass her.
Prosecutor Paul Genney informed Hull Crown Court that Colley, aged 38, was found intoxicated when she arrived at his house.
She aimed to recover her phone containing the threatening video, but he prevented her and began physically assaulting her.
In her attempt to escape, she poured beer down the toilet, but Colley responded by biting her arm and throwing her to the floor, then trying to stamp on her head.
She was able to get up and during the ongoing struggle, she grabbed his keys and phone before he pushed her against a wall.
He then strangled her for about thirty seconds, during which she struggled to breathe but managed to bend his thumbs around her throat before he released her.
She tasted blood afterwards.
He then threatened to kill her and slapped her face.
She pleaded with him to delete the video, but he responded with violence, punching her in the forehead, biting her breast, and attempting to secure her in a headlock.
She managed to kick him in the groin, which incapacitated him temporarily, and escaped with his keys and phone before contacting police.
Colley was later arrested.
During police questioning, Colley denied the strangulation, stamping, and threats, but he admitted guilt for the strangulation, assault causing bodily harm, and threatening to distribute private sexual photographs.
The victim described the experience as leaving her traumatised and exhausted physically and mentally.
Colley has a significant criminal record with 54 convictions, including domestic violence offences such as harassment, assault, and breaching restraining orders.
Oliver Shipley, representing Colley, acknowledged his troubled history but noted his last offence was in 2019.
He suggested that alcohol misuse and relationship problems contributed to the violence.
Judge John Thackray KC sentenced Colley to three years in prison, characterising the assault as a shocking episode of domestic abuse.
The judge pointed out that Colley’s initial threats involved social media exposure of an intimate video, and he was fortunate not to be prosecuted for blackmail, which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years.
The judge detailed the violent acts, including poking her in the face, biting her, throwing her, attempting to stamp on her, strangling her, slapping her, punching her, and biting her again.
The court noted Colley’s extensive history of similar offences, emphasizing the lasting psychological damage caused to the victim and her family and describing her attack as prolonged and terrifying, with him acting out of control.
