SHROPSHIRE MAN SENTENCED FOR DISTURBING SEX OFFENCES AGAINST CHILDREN
A north Shropshire man has received a suspended prison sentence after he admitted a string of sexual offences.Jason Coles, of Oakley Close in Weston Lullingfields, was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, when he appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court on Friday (May 9).
The 50-year-old had previously pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and two counts of making indecent photographs of children.
The court was told that Coles had made a category A - the most serious type - image of a child between January 26, 2023 and February 20, 2024; and on the same dates, he made seven category C images of children.
Both offences happened in Shrewsbury.
He had also communicated in a sexual manner with a 12-year-old on December 6, 2023.
For making a Category A image, Coles was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and for making the Category C images he was sentenced to three months in prison, sentenced for 18 months.
For the sexual communication offence, Coles was sentenced to five months in prison, suspended for 18 months.
All prison terms will run concurrently.
Coles was also placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years and made the subject of a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.
He must also complete 12 rehabilitation activity requirement days and complete 100 hours unpaid work.
Coles must pay £1,000 court costs and the court confirmed the forfeiture and destruction of the images.
