Brecon Rapist
A man named Jason Clint Pettit has been sentenced to life in prison after confessing to sex offences committed over two decades ago. Pettit was an inmate when he admitted to the offences in Brecon during the 1990s. Prison authorities notified police, which led to an investigation aimed at locating the victim, who had not previously reported the crimes but had endured decades of emotional trauma. Pettit faced charges of rape, false imprisonment, and indecent assault at Merthyr Crown Court on May 28. After his confession, Dyfed-Powys Police discovered a record of a domestic incident involving Pettit and a woman in Brecon in 1996, although there were no previous reports of sexual offences. The victim, who now resides elsewhere and has a learning disability, had been raped and confined in a house, and she had never reported the abuse out of fear of Pettit. Detective Constable Adam Clark described Pettit as a 'highly dangerous man,' emphasizing the emotional and physical harm caused to the victim. The court sentenced Pettit to life imprisonment with a minimum term of seven years, acknowledging the significant trauma inflicted. Clark expressed gratitude for the victim’s courage in speaking out after many years, which contributed to a lengthy imprisonment for Pettit.
