OXFORD PAEDOPHILE'S SENTENCING DELAYED AFTER PRISON ACCIDENT
A paedophile caught using social media and deleting messages has had an accident in prison, delaying his sentencing.
Jason Batty, of Chelsea Place, Cholsey, was originally due to be sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday, March 13, for four counts of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
The order was established on February 23 of the previous year when Batty, aged 36, was sentenced for messaging what he believed to be a young boy, requesting indecent pictures.
He was apprehended on February 12, 2022, after messaging someone he thought was a boy under 16 called ‘Ethan’, making indecent photo requests and asking inappropriate sexual questions.
Several months later, Batty was caught breaching the SHPO between August and November last year by deleting messages on multiple social media accounts, creating a Snapchat account, and using DuckDuckGo, a private search engine.
After pleading guilty, his sentencing was postponed because he suffered an accident that rendered him immobile.
His defense lawyer, George Joseph, explained Batty now uses a wheelchair and could not be brought to court because no lift was available from the cells to the courtroom.
The sentencing has been rescheduled for March 20 via a video link.
