Aberystwyth Child Sexual Abuser
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Aberystwyth, Jared Perry, a 32-year-old man from Llanilan, was convicted of multiple heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of infants and young children. The court heard that Perry’s offending was so severe that he was classified as an 'extremely high risk' to children, prompting a lengthy and stringent sentence.

The case came to light in a rather unusual manner. Perry, instead of being apprehended through traditional investigative procedures, voluntarily entered Aberystwyth police station in January 2019 and confessed to his crimes. His decision to turn himself in was driven by a desire to 'clear his conscience,' according to court reports. Over the course of approximately seven interviews, Perry disclosed details of his abuse, which included both male and female victims, some of whom were less than six months old.

The court was informed that Perry’s background played a significant role in his offending behavior. Raised in a strict religious environment, he reportedly began viewing pornography at an early age. His initial exposure was to adult material, but this gradually escalated to images involving children, which he later became addicted to. His substance abuse issues compounded his problems, and he was described as a 'controlling and manipulative' individual, traits that likely facilitated his opportunistic attacks on vulnerable children.

Prosecutor John Hipkin outlined that Perry’s crimes included ten counts of indecent assault and sexual assault on a child under 13. The severity of his actions and the risk he posed to society led the court to consider him a dangerous offender. The court’s decision was also influenced by psychiatric and pre-sentence reports that highlighted the depth of his deviance and the potential for future harm.

Judge Paul Thomas QC, after reviewing all evidence, sentenced Perry to a total of 17 years in prison. This sentence comprised an initial 10-year term followed by an extended seven-year period on licence, during which Perry will be closely monitored. The judge emphasized that Perry would be eligible to apply for parole after serving two-thirds of his custodial sentence. Additionally, Perry was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was subjected to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order to restrict his future activities.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Thomas made it clear that Perry’s risk to children remains significant. He stated, 'I believe without a doubt you present an extremely high risk of sexually assaulting children in the future.' The court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which the justice system views such predatory behavior and the importance of protecting the community from individuals like Perry.
