MAN SENT EXPLICIT SELFIES TO UNDERAGE GIRL
The relatives of a minor who received explicit selfies from a 32-year-old roofer claim he avoided jail time despite his actions.Dad Jamie Scott, residing in New Romney, repeatedly sent images of his genitals to the teenage girl, blaming his behavior on excessive cocaine consumption.
He captioned some of the photos with phrases like “you could be on this,” “this could be yours,” and “we could have a relationship.” The misconduct only came to light when the girl’s mother discovered a threatening letter written by her in her bedroom, prompting her to contact the police.
Scott was detained and admitted to engaging in sexual communication with a minor from January to September 2020.
The girl alleged that he sent her explicit images up to five times each month, but Scott denied this, claiming it occurred only two or three times.
He explained his actions by citing his heavy cocaine use, the court was told.
While the victim, who cannot be named due to legal restrictions, did not issue a personal statement about how his actions affected her, her sister addressed Canterbury Crown Court after Scott received a sentence that avoided prison.
Visibly upset, she expressed her disappointment, saying, “He has got off lightly.” “He had no real answer apart from denying his drug use.
The monitoring is not enough—it's not what I expected.
My sister is still feeling the effects three years later.
It’s terrible.
He doesn’t see what he’s done or how it has impacted us all.” The relative recounted the discovery: “My mum found a letter in my sister’s room where she had drawn speech bubbles saying ‘I feel disgusting’ and ‘I’ve washed myself in bleach.’ We had no idea until then, and I want the public to be aware of people like this who evade proper punishment.
It's sickening.” Scott, who lives on Lydd Road, New Romney, also faced a trial earlier this year for more serious charges of sexual contact, which he denied.
He was acquitted by the jury.
He received a 12-month suspended prison sentence for two years, along with 30 hours of rehabilitation activities, 200 hours of unpaid work, and participation in the Horizon sex offender programme.
Additionally, he must adhere to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and register as a sex offender for the same duration.
He has 28 days to settle court costs amounting to £535.
