JAMIE MATLOCK'S VIOLENT OUTBURST IN NEWCHURCH LEADS TO COURT HEARING
A notorious offender from the Isle of Wight, Jamie Matlock, has once again found himself at the center of a serious criminal case following a violent incident that left his former partner with severe injuries. The incident took place in the village of Newchurch, where Matlock, aged 43 and residing on Hope Mead, was involved in a disturbing assault that has garnered significant attention from local authorities and the community alike.Matlock appeared before the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Tuesday, December 17, to face charges related to the assault. Interestingly, he had been released from custody prior to this hearing, despite having previously received a prison sentence for causing what was described as 'horrifying' injuries to his ex-partner. The circumstances surrounding his release and subsequent actions have raised questions about the adequacy of his supervision and the ongoing risks he poses.
Initially, Matlock entered a plea of not guilty to the charges brought against him. However, on the day of his trial, he changed his plea to guilty, admitting to the assault. Prosecutor Tim Devlin provided a detailed account of the events leading up to the incident. According to Devlin, Matlock arrived at his ex-partner’s residence at approximately 10:45 pm on May 8, carrying a bottle of gin. The court was told that Matlock’s demeanor was initially calm and positive, but this quickly shifted as he became aggressive and verbally abusive.
Devlin recounted that Matlock made threatening remarks, including a warning that he would kill his ex-partner if she entered into another relationship. During the confrontation, he also picked up a hammer, although there was some dispute over whether he actually used it against her. The situation escalated as Matlock launched a relentless assault, which involved him throwing a table at his ex-partner. The attack resulted in injuries to her face, arm, shoulder, shin, and her right eye, as well as injuries to her palm caused by his own hand.
Throughout the assault, Matlock made further threats, warning his ex-partner that if she reported the incident, he would 'go down for a long time.' His manipulative and threatening behavior appeared aimed at intimidating her into silence. Following the attack, the woman was encouraged by her family to seek help, leading her to report the incident to the police. She was subsequently taken to hospital, where a CT scan was performed. Fortunately, the scan revealed no major internal injuries, but the physical trauma was evident.
Despite disagreements over some details of the case, the probation service described Matlock as a ‘significant threat to the public,’ especially considering that he had actively sought out his ex-partner’s address after being informed of it. This detail underscored concerns about his potential for future violence.
In sentencing, Judge Melville handed down a prison term of 16 months. However, due to the time Matlock had already served in custody, he was released immediately. The court also took into account his extensive criminal history, which includes approximately 180 previous offenses such as theft, criminal damage, and assaults. The judge described Matlock’s actions as ‘extremely unpleasant’ and emphasized the horrifying injuries inflicted upon his ex-partner. He condemned Matlock’s behavior as merciless and lacking remorse, highlighting the ongoing risks he poses to the community.
This case has once again brought to light the ongoing issues of violence and recidivism in the local area, with authorities emphasizing the importance of monitoring individuals like Matlock to prevent further harm. The incident remains a stark reminder of the dangers posed by repeat offenders and the need for vigilant legal and social intervention.
