Bridgwater Wincanton Child Sexual Abuser
In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Bridgwater and Wincanton, 22-year-old Jamie Robert Lock has been convicted and sentenced for a series of heinous sexual offenses involving young boys. The court proceedings revealed a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned over several months, culminating in a prison sentence that reflects the severity of his crimes.

Lock, who previously served time for possessing indecent images of children, was found guilty of multiple charges, including two counts of sexual assault and one count of fraud. The fraud charge stemmed from his deliberate omission of his criminal history when applying for a job at the Wincanton Co-op supermarket, a position he obtained in June 2013. The court heard that Lock, desperate for employment, chose not to disclose his prior conviction, which was a calculated decision to secure work despite his criminal record.

During the court hearing at Taunton Crown Court, prosecutors detailed Lock’s troubling interactions with children. It was revealed that Lock had established a relationship with a woman who was the mother of three children, two of whom were boys. The court was shown evidence that Lock stayed overnight at her Wincanton residence between February 7 and 8, 2015, during a sleepover celebrating one of the boys’ eighth birthday. On that night, Lock was found sleeping in the lounge alongside the children, with the woman sleeping on a mattress nearby. However, the situation took a sinister turn when the woman awoke to find Lock missing from his spot and observed one of the boys sitting up with Lock in front of him.

The boy later disclosed that Lock had made him feel uncomfortable and had asked, “do you want to feel something nice?” before inappropriately touching him by unzipping his onesie and touching his penis and bottom. These actions constitute serious sexual misconduct and highlight Lock’s predatory behavior towards vulnerable children.

Adding to the gravity of his offenses, Lock admitted to a more severe incident involving a nine-year-old boy. He confessed that between December 2014 and January 31, 2015, he had engaged in sexual activity with the boy, including oral penetration. The court was told that Lock assaulted the child while caring for his friend’s children at her home, during a period when she was at work. According to the evidence, Lock watched a film with the boy before the child went to sleep in his bunk bed. Lock then entered the room, pulled down his own boxer shorts, and performed oral sex on the sleeping boy, an act that lasted several seconds. Lock later claimed that he believed his actions would cause the child to experience pleasure and stated he did not intend to hurt him.

Following the discovery of these crimes, Lock was dismissed from his job at the Wincanton Co-op in March 2015. He subsequently pleaded guilty to all charges, including the sexual assault and the breach of the Sexual Offenders’ Register, where he failed to update his details under the aliases Jamie Kelly and Danny Mitchell during 2014.

During sentencing, Judge Ticehurst emphasized that Lock remains a significant threat to the public, particularly to young boys. Despite acknowledging Lock’s guilty pleas and his willingness to seek help, the judge imposed a substantial extended sentence. Lock was sentenced to eight years for the most serious offense involving penetration, with five years to be served in prison and an additional three-year extended license period. The other charges, including inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and fraud, resulted in concurrent sentences of two years and nine months, respectively. Furthermore, Lock was subjected to a new Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will remain on the sex offenders register for life.

In a related development, in June 2015, Lock pleaded guilty to the sexual assault of an eight-year-old boy in Wincanton, along with multiple breaches of the Sexual Offenders’ Register. His actions have caused widespread concern among residents of Bridgwater and Wincanton, highlighting the ongoing risks posed by individuals with a history of sexual offenses against children.
