JAMES OLIVER FROM NORTHALLERTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES

In May 2014, James Oliver, a family support worker from North Yorkshire, was sentenced to 32 months in prison for involvement in a child abuse images ring.

Teesside Crown Court heard that the 30-year-old had shared numerous child abuse images online with 13 other men, including some depicting the rape of young children who were restrained and gagged.

Police raided Oliver's home near Northallerton and discovered over 3,000 images on his computer and mobile phone.

It was revealed that Oliver used explicit and disturbing language to discuss his so-called "fantasies" on Skype, expressing a desire to have sex with a two-year-old child.

Officers also found a video of a teenager engaging in a sexual act, which Oliver had distributed to others via messaging services.

Prosecutor Paul Newcombe stated that police found several pairs of the teenager's pants in the pockets of Oliver’s dressing gown during the search.

During court proceedings, Oliver, who covered his face with his hands, admitted to 11 counts of making indecent photos and six counts of distributing such images, committed over an eleven-month period from January 17 to December 15 of the previous year.

In total, police uncovered 3,007 indecent images stored in computer files, some labeled with terms like “toddler rape,” along with 71 videos.

Oliver, residing at Danelaw Gardens, Brompton, Northallerton, had been held in custody for the past five months awaiting sentencing and was described as previously of good character.

He pleaded guilty to six charges of distributing indecent images of children and eleven of creating such images between January and November last year.

As part of his sentence, Oliver was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, prohibited from contacting children, and banned from using the Internet.
