PAEDOPHILE DRUGGED A SCHOOLGIRL AND THEN RAPED HER
A man from Cambridgeshire, James McClennon, aged 62 and residing on Manor Close in Wittering, was convicted of serious criminal offenses involving a young girl.
He was found guilty at Peterborough Crown Court on May 15 of two counts of raping a girl under the age of 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14 years old.
Following the verdict, Judge Lowe sentenced McClennon on May 16 to a prison term of 17 years, with an additional year to be served on licence.
The victim, who was between 10 and 12 years old at the time of the abuse, was subjected to his acts over approximately two years, starting in 1997 in Peterborough.
During their encounters, McClennon used sleeping pills on at least two occasions to drug his young victim before assaulting her.
The girl faced significant psychological barriers before coming forward, as McClennon convinced her that her disclosures would be dismissed and that it was a secret they must keep.
