A 17-year-old young man, Declan Harrison-Ames of New Craigielea, Seafield Road, Lerwick, has been ordered to stay on the sex offenders register for nine months following his convictions for sexual assaults involving young girls. Harrison-Ames also received a community payback order with a supervision requirement. He appeared in court today for sentencing after previously admitting to the assaults that took place in December and January at the town’s Commercial Street and Viking Bus Station.

Sheriff Philip Mann cautioned Harrison-Ames that failure to cooperate with social workers could result in a custodial sentence, stating, “That would open up the possibility of a custodial sentence for three months.”

The court sentenced him to a nine-month supervised community payback order, which does not include unpaid work. Harrison-Ames, who is currently living in Orkney, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting three girls aged 13 and 14 by touching them sexually and making sexual comments to one of the 14-year-olds.
