JAMES LARTY SHAMES WILTS MILITARY BASE WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT AT BULFORD COURT

Corporal James Larty, aged 26, who is attached to the Royal Tank Regiment, was at the center of a serious legal case held at Bulford Military Court, located in Wiltshire. The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about an incident involving Larty and a female colleague, which took place during a celebration marking the Battle of Cambrai. Witnesses and the victim provided harrowing accounts of Larty’s behavior, which culminated in a conviction for sexual assault.

According to court testimony, Larty, who was reportedly heavily intoxicated at the time, entered the victim’s room uninvited. The incident occurred during a period of revelry, and Larty was described as being in a state of significant drunkenness. Despite the victim’s clear requests for him to leave, Larty persisted in his attempts to persuade her to join him, disregarding her boundaries and personal space. The victim recounted that Larty pinned her down on her bed by her wrists, kissed her neck, and nibbled her ear in a manner that she found threatening and invasive. He also rubbed his groin against her, all while warning her not to disclose what had happened.

In a further disturbing development, Larty reached for her phone in an apparent attempt to call for help. However, he then left the room, only to return shortly afterward. During this return visit, he warned her explicitly not to speak about the incident and denied that any sexual activity had taken place. The victim described feeling extremely unsafe and scared during the ordeal, experiencing episodes of sleep paralysis where she visualized Larty’s body at the foot of her bed and felt as if she was being choked. These episodes, she explained, persisted for approximately two weeks, severely affecting her mental health and emotional well-being.

The court acknowledged that Larty’s use of force was on the lower end of the spectrum compared to more violent sexual assaults, as the victim did not sustain any physical injuries. Nonetheless, the judge emphasized that the nature of the assault was serious enough to warrant a stern response. The Ministry of Defence’s policy of zero tolerance towards such conduct was highlighted during the sentencing. Larty was sentenced to nine months in prison, but this sentence was suspended for two years. Additionally, he was ordered to undertake 30 days of rehabilitation and complete 270 hours of unpaid community work within a year.

The judge condemned Larty’s actions, stating that his behavior demonstrated a complete lack of respect for his colleagues and was entirely unacceptable within the armed forces. As a consequence, Larty was dismissed from his position. The court also ordered him to pay £1,200 in compensation to the victim, underscoring the severity of the misconduct and the impact it had on her mental health and safety.
