74-YEAR-OLD SEX ABUSER JAILED FOR 10 YEARS
A 74-year-old sex abuser who repeatedly raped two young girls over a 15-year period was sentenced to 10 years in prison yesterday.
The judge informed James Lamont that he had dominated the lives of his victims from the age of seven.
Lord Philip stated that the damage inflicted on the girls was incalculable.
Lamont, a retired publican and former chairman of Wellshot tenants co-operative in Cambuslang, was found guilty by a jury of eight charges of repeatedly raping and abusing the girls at his houses located in Cathkin Avenue, Cambuslang; Hilltown, Dundee, and other locations between 1980 and 1995.
Lamont denied all charges.
The court heard that one girl, aged 13, testified via CCTV about being abused from age seven and later raped from age 10.
The other victim, now 26, recounted how Lamont began abusing her in her home and manipulated her with guilt, starting when she was 10.
Lord Philip emphasized that Lamont added to his victims' suffering by forcing them to relive their ordeals.
