MAN WHO STABBED GIRLFRIEND 57 TIMES AND KILLED HER IN BIGGAR
James Kennedy, 37 years old, was found guilty of the killing of Joanne Gallacher, 33, after she was stabbed 57 times in their residence in Biggar, Lanarkshire. The crime occurred following a period where Kennedy exhibited alarming behavior, including a psychiatric evaluation in June 2018 that concluded he was neither psychotic nor suicidal.
Before the incident, Gallacher had reached out to an NHS mental health facility, requesting her partner’s admission to hospital because she feared for her safety.
Despite her pleas, no steps were taken to hospitalize Kennedy.
An inquiry at Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that medical professionals had assessed Kennedy’s mental health, and NHS workers were later prohibited from visiting his home environment.
This was after authorities found weapons such as knives, a claw hammer, and an axe inside his house, alongside bloodstains.
The hearing also noted that Kennedy believed Gallacher intended to harm him and that he was sleeping rough in East Kilbride’s woods.
Kennedy is currently detained at the State Hospital in Carstairs after admitting guilt for culpable homicide on the grounds of diminished responsibility at Glasgow’s High Court in 2019.
Ongoing proceedings continue to explore further details of this tragic case.
