MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE OFFENCES
James Deens, aged 39 and residing on Tilston Close, admitted to engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour. He received his sentencing on Friday, 17 October, at Liverpool Crown Court.
Additionally, a seven-year Restraining Order was imposed on him.
Following the court proceedings, Detective Constable Lauren Baker commented: “Deens was previously in a relationship with the victim and when she attempted to end it, he made threats to her, along with trying to intimidate her and isolate her from her family and friends.
“This cruel and sustained campaign of behaviour left her deeply fearful and distressed.
She describes being 'terrorised' by Deens, causing devastation to her confidence and wellbeing.
When the relationship was brought to an end, Deens continued to intrude into her personal and professional life, creating lasting damage through his behaviour.
“We hope that the outcome at court provides her with some reassurance moving forward, as she rebuilds her life.
“Domestic abuse comes in many forms and perpetrators of domestic abuse are manipulative.
They will go to significant lengths to gain their partner’s trust before turning their lives into a place of fear and abuse.
“We also want to encourage friends, family members and the wider community to come forward and make a report if they suspect someone is suffering from domestic abuse.
“If you’re worried about someone, let them know you’ve noticed something is wrong.
They might not be ready to talk but try to find quiet times when they can talk if they choose to.”
