CHANNEL 4 SPACE EXPERT CHARGED WITH RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT
A man who appeared on a recent episode of Channel 4’s Amazing Spaces has been accused of rape and sexual assault.Earlier this month, James Catling, aged 32, was charged by police after allegedly attacking a woman at a pub and hotel in Great Tew, Oxon, in September 2022.
He was arrested one day after the alleged incident on October 1, 2022, but was released under investigation.
A few weeks later, Catling was formally charged with one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault, and he appeared at Oxford magistrates’ court.
The charges include two counts related to kissing and touching around the woman’s neck, mouth, and bottom at the pub.
During the court hearing, Dr.
Andrew Rushbrook JP stated, ‘You’ve heard what’s been said today.
We have to send this to the crown court, where all four offences you have been charged with will be dealt with together.’ Catling, who wore black trousers and a checkered shirt during the court appearance, only responded to confirm his name, age, and address.
He was released on bail with the condition that he does not contact his alleged victim, and he is scheduled to appear at Oxford Crown Court next month.
It is not known when the Channel 4 episode was filmed or if Catling had disclosed his charges to the broadcaster.
The episode, which remains available on Channel 4’s streaming service and YouTube, showcased his Airstream caravan refurbishment project, which involved adding 800 new parts to a 1947 campervan costing nearly £40,000.
The episode involves George Clarke praising Catling’s renovation, describing it as “the best Airstream restoration project I have ever seen.” Subsequently, Catling listed the campervan on eBay for £120,000.
The show 'Amazing Spaces' has been running since 2012 and features transforming unconventional objects into livable spaces, with a focus on small and creative uses of space.
