GRIMSBY MAN JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING GIRL AFTER DRUG SUPPLY
A man who provided ketamine to a group of girls and then sexually assaulted one of them has been sentenced to four years and nine months in prison after authorities uncovered evidence of children under the influence of drugs.James Briggs, aged 42 and residing on Coniston Avenue in Grimsby, was convicted at Exeter Crown Court on Monday, July 6, of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13.
He had previously admitted to six charges related to offering to supply and actually supplying ketamine.
The court was told that Briggs assaulted the girl in East Devon in 2023.
The victim reported the assault to police, which led to Briggs's arrest and the confiscation of his mobile phone.
Investigations revealed that Briggs had recently bought ketamine, and videos showing children under the influence of drugs were discovered.
During police interviews, Briggs claimed he was merely discussing mental health with the girl and denied any sexual misconduct.
On July 17, he was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison, ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years, and issued a seven-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Detective Constable Jonathan Stephens commented, "We welcome the outcome and would like to acknowledge the courage shown by the victim and other child witnesses in this case."
