PAEDOPHILE SHARED VILE CHILD ABUSE IMAGES WANTS TO USE ONLINE DATING APPS

A man with a disturbing history of child abuse and illegal online activity, Jake Cresswell, has once again found himself at the center of a serious legal case in Durham and Skelton.

Cresswell, aged 25, was previously convicted of possessing and sharing hundreds of illicit images depicting children being sexually abused.

His past actions led to a significant prison sentence, and his behavior since his release continues to raise alarm.

In 2021, a judge described Cresswell as "devious and manipulative" after he was sentenced to additional time behind bars.

The court found that he posed a "high risk of harm towards children" due to his online conduct, which included engaging in discussions with other paedophiles.

These conversations involved disturbing fantasies about meeting, abusing, and being "seduced by" children.

Some of these exchanges even involved role-playing scenarios that included child rape, highlighting the severity of his online predatory behaviour.

Despite his incarceration, Cresswell’s issues persisted after his release last year.

In August 2022, an offender manager from the authorities visited his residence on The Hills in Skelton and discovered that he had been using an alias on the Discord app, a platform often used for private messaging and group chats.

Cresswell had registered his account under the pseudonym "LotusBear" and had also used an alternative email address to open this account.

This activity was a clear breach of the strict conditions attached to his release, which mandated that he declare all electronic devices and refrain from using certain online platforms.

Cresswell’s barrister, Lewis Kerr, argued that his client relied heavily on online dating services to meet new people, as he found it difficult to socialize in public due to his offender status.

Kerr explained that Cresswell used aliases to avoid being identified as a sex offender in the public domain, emphasizing that his client does not agree with the restrictions placed on his internet use.

The court was informed that Cresswell felt entitled to use online dating sites, despite the legal limitations.

Further complicating the case, police contacted Cresswell’s employer, Peppino’s Pizza on Skelton High Street, after intelligence suggested he was using a concealed device.

The employer provided police with a phone number associated with Cresswell, who had previously told authorities he did not possess a mobile phone.

However, a forensic examination of his devices revealed that he had deleted 386 items from his internet history, which was a breach of his internet restrictions.

When police searched Cresswell’s home, they discovered a hidden mobile phone on the roof of his residence and found cannabis in his bedroom.

His barrister noted that Cresswell’s job delivering pizzas was unlikely to bring him into contact with children, and emphasized that he had not committed any contact offenses, suggesting that his recent breaches did not represent an escalation in his offending behaviour.

Cresswell admitted to four breaches of his sexual harm prevention order and possession of cannabis.

As a result, he was recalled to prison to serve the remainder of his sentence, which is scheduled to conclude on October 16.

His previous conviction in March 2018 involved sending horrific images of children, some as young as three months old, with a total collection of nearly five hours of videos.

Cresswell admitted that his interest in such material was initially sparked by anime characters when he was around 15 or 16 years old.

He claimed to have been "initially repulsed" by the images but gradually felt less guilty as he continued viewing them.

In 2019, Cresswell breached his order again by deleting multiple dating apps, including Grindr, Tinder, and Bumble.

By March 2020, his offender manager discovered messages indicating he had been involved in an online relationship, and further deletions of 258 items from his internet history were identified.

The police’s latest investigation and court proceedings underscore the ongoing concerns about his behaviour and the risks he poses to children, despite his incarceration and previous convictions.

On Tuesday, Judge Howard Crowson emphasized that the internet restrictions are in place to manage the risks Cresswell poses to children.

The judge extended his current imprisonment, imposing a three-year sentence to run concurrently with his existing sentence, which he is required to complete by October 16.

This case highlights the persistent challenges faced by authorities in monitoring and controlling individuals with a history of online child exploitation.
