JAGO LETHBRIDGE FROM FARINGDON AND ST IVES KILLS CHICKEN ON ISLES OF SCILLY
Jago Mattew Lethbridge, born around 1997 and residing on Ferndale Street in Faringdon, has been involved in a disturbing incident that has garnered significant attention. Although his primary residence is in Faringdon, he maintains strong connections to St Ives in Cornwall and Hugh Town on St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly. The incident in question involved the theft and subsequent killing of a chicken from a farm located on St Mary’s.According to court records, Lethbridge admitted to stealing two chickens from a farm on the Isles of Scilly. The court heard that he not only took the animals but also caused unnecessary suffering to one of them by breaking its neck, resulting in its death. This act of cruelty has been described as particularly heinous, given the unnecessary nature of the suffering inflicted.
Jago Lethbridge, who is employed as a boat skipper, faced charges related to animal cruelty and theft. His guilty plea was entered during the court proceedings, where he acknowledged the wrongdoing. The case drew attention to issues of animal welfare and the responsibilities of individuals who handle animals, especially in rural and farming communities.
In sentencing, the court imposed a 12-week custodial sentence, which was suspended for 12 months, meaning Lethbridge would not serve time unless he committed another offense within that period. Additionally, he was subjected to a four-month curfew, restricting his movements during certain hours. The court also ordered him to pay compensation of £171.20 to the farm owner, along with a surcharge of £128 and legal costs amounting to £85.
Furthermore, Lethbridge received a ten-year ban on keeping animals, a restriction that will remain in effect until June 2031. This case highlights ongoing concerns about animal cruelty and the importance of enforcing laws designed to protect animals from harm. The incident has been reported by the South West Farmer, emphasizing the seriousness with which such cases are treated by the judicial system.
