JACK SUDDABY'S HORRIFIC CRIME SPREE IN HULL: VIOLENCE AND POLICE BRUTALITY AT HALLOWEEN PARTY

In a disturbing series of events that unfolded in Hull, Jack Suddaby, aged 31, became the center of a violent incident that shocked the local community. The trouble began after a Halloween celebration in York, where both Suddaby and his former partner had been drinking heavily and he was also smoking cannabis. The woman, with whom Suddaby had been in a relationship for approximately two years and with whom he shared a child, found herself the target of his suspicion and jealousy. According to court reports, the relationship had been deteriorating for about two months prior to the assault that occurred on October 30, 2021.

During the Halloween party, the woman engaged in conversations with others, which seemed to provoke Suddaby’s anger. When she returned to him, he accused her of flirting with another man, a claim she denied, asserting that she would have a better time without him. Suddaby responded by accusing her of playing mind games, and the couple decided to leave the event and head back home. Once there, the situation escalated rapidly. Suddaby stormed upstairs, and when his partner followed, he slammed a door, catching her toe just as she was about to enter. His aggressive behavior intensified as he pushed her head into a wall, causing her nose to bleed.

His violence did not stop there. Suddaby later forcefully opened a door and approached her again, leaving her visibly terrified. He then dragged her to the top of the stairs and pushed her down the first three steps. During this assault, he also threw her phone downstairs and snatched her keys, locking her outside the house. The woman managed to escape outside, but Suddaby’s rage continued. He forcibly took her keys from her hand and locked the door, trapping her outside.

Alarmed neighbors or passersby called the police, who responded swiftly to the distress call. When officers arrived, they found Suddaby hiding inside a cupboard in a child's bedroom within the house. The situation quickly turned violent as Suddaby launched himself at one of the officers, biting him on the left thigh and refusing to release his grip. The police had to apply pressure to Suddaby’s neck to make him let go. A struggle ensued on the floor, during which Suddaby directed profanities at a policewoman, calling her a “f***ing b***h,” and resisted arrest further. He was eventually subdued and placed into a police van.

In a separate incident dating back to June 15 of the previous year, Suddaby’s aggressive behavior was again on display. On that day, he was drinking at the Gardeners Arms pub on Cottingham Road in Hull but was refused service due to his intoxicated state. His reaction was violent and threatening as he asked, “Who’s going to f***ing stop me?” After leaving the pub, he climbed over a fence into nearby student accommodation, causing damage to windows. When he returned to the pub later, he was denied entry once more and responded with further abuse, pushing a staff member out of the way. Police were called to address the damage and Suddaby’s unruly conduct. Despite being warned and attempting to resist arrest by tensing his arms and swinging at officers, he was subjected to Pava spray, which temporarily incapacitated him. During the arrest, officers found him in possession of heroin and cannabis.

The court proceedings revealed that Suddaby had a long history of criminal behavior, with 15 previous convictions. His lawyer, Cathy Kioko-Gilligan, acknowledged his ongoing struggle with alcohol, stating, “He knows that his demon is drink and he has got to do something about it.” The court was also informed that Suddaby had no intention of rekindling contact with his ex-girlfriend.

During sentencing at Hull Crown Court, Recorder Anthony Hawks addressed Suddaby’s pattern of violence and substance abuse. He emphasized that the assault on his ex-partner was a typical example of drunken, jealous, coercive behavior that courts are increasingly tired of witnessing. The judge condemned Suddaby’s attack on the police officers, describing it as “disgusting,” and underscored the importance of police officers’ safety while performing their duties.

As a result, Suddaby was sentenced to a 21-month suspended prison term. Additionally, he was ordered to complete a 120-day tagged alcohol abstinence program, 25 days of rehabilitation, and participate in a Building Better Relationships program. A five-year restraining order was also imposed to prevent any contact with his former partner. The judge issued a stern warning: “If you lay hands on a woman again, you will face immediate imprisonment measured in years.” The case highlights the ongoing issues of domestic violence, substance abuse, and police brutality in Hull, serving as a stark reminder of the consequences of such violent behavior.
