GOWER MAN JACK PRICE FOUND WITH CHILD ABUSE VIDEOS IN SWANSEA AND SENTENCED SUSPENDED PRISON
In July 2017, Jack Price, a 25-year-old resident of Bishopston on the Gower Peninsula, was caught possessing videos of child abuse on his mobile phone. Authorities acting on information visited his home in Bishopston, where they confiscated his phone. Police discovered 20 explicit videos on the device, including several classified as Category A, the most severe type. This marked Price’s second conviction related to indecent images of children. Previously, in 2015, he was sentenced to eight months in prison after being found with over 1,000 indecent images.
During the recent court proceedings at Swansea Crown Court, Price, who works at a local post office on Kilfield Road, pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children and one count of possessing cannabis, which was discovered during his arrest.
Judge Paul Thomas QC addressed Price, emphasizing the harm caused by such material. He stated, “These are not victimless offenses, they are not just simple pictures on a screen – these are real children. You are responsible, in an indirect way, for their sexual degradation.”
The judge also highlighted the broader societal impact, explaining that individuals like Price contribute to the ongoing abuse and degradation of children through their viewing habits.
In his sentencing, Judge Thomas opted for a rehabilitative approach. He sentenced Price to 12 months in prison for each of the three possession charges, to be served concurrently, totaling 12 months, but suspended for 24 months. He also ordered that Price be registered as a sex offender for the next 10 years.
The court heard that Judge Thomas considered whether to send Price to prison or to allow probation services to work intensively with him to address his offending. Ultimately, he determined that the latter was in the best interest of society.
