MAN JAILED FOR STALKING: VICTIM PROTECTION ORDER PUT IN PLACE
A man from Mayland who was among the first individuals granted an Essex Police stalking protection order has been sentenced to prison for a series of harassment incidents targeting a woman and her associates.Jack Powell, aged 29 and residing on Tern Close, received two sentences of 27 months each, to be served concurrently, for breaching a non-molestation order at Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday (10 August).
In addition, he was sentenced to two 20-month terms for further breaches of the same type of order, four months for stalking, three months for two counts of harassment along with one count of stalking and assault by beating, and two months for causing police to undertake unnecessary work—all to run simultaneously.
He has been subject to indefinite restraining orders, including a five-year stalking protection order.
Between 1 January 2019 and 15 December 2019, Powell engaged in persistent harassment against a woman.
Despite numerous police reports, the investigations lacked sufficient evidence for prosecution at that time.
Nevertheless, in November 2019, the woman formally reported the abuse again and obtained a non-molestation order through the courts.
Over nearly a year, Powell’s actions significantly disrupted her daily life.
His harassment included multiple negative social media posts, threats to damage her vehicle, malicious messages, unwanted emails and voice notes, as well as sending unwanted flowers and fast food deliveries she had to pay for.
He also falsely reported incidents to police, threatened to harm himself, and sent two letters from prison while on remand.
Additionally, Powell harassed individuals close to the woman, assaulted a social worker attempting to assist him, and caused further distress.
Detective Constable Steven King from Essex Police stated, "This week a domestic abuser has been sent to prison and there are orders in place that will restrict his activities and movements once he is released."
