IVAN BRADLEY FROM HANDSWORTH WOOD SENTENCED FOR NEARLY 60,000 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN DERBY

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Ivan Bradley, a 64-year-old resident of Handsworth Wood, was found to possess an alarming collection of nearly 60,000 images and videos depicting child abuse. The investigation revealed that Bradley, who has authored three published science fiction novels and is also an artist, had drawn and collected highly inappropriate and illegal material involving young girls engaging in sexual acts.

Derby Crown Court heard how the police first became aware of Bradley’s activities in 2015 after a neighbor reported concerns. The neighbor had observed Bradley showing him some of the disturbing images, which prompted authorities to seize his electronic devices. An examination of these devices uncovered approximately 50,000 illicit images, movies, and illustrations, some of which were created by Bradley himself. The material was described as deeply disturbing, involving young girls in various sexual scenarios.

While on bail for the initial offences, Bradley’s problematic behavior continued. In 2018, during a routine visit to a Job Centre, he brought a tablet with him and showed a worker three additional indecent images. The worker, alarmed by the content, contacted the police once again. A subsequent search of Bradley’s residence on Windermere Road in Handsworth Wood uncovered a further 10,000 images, movies, and drawings, adding to the already extensive collection.

Bradley’s legal situation took a bizarre turn when, after the case was opened and mitigation was presented on his behalf, he dismissed his legal team and requested that his guilty pleas be withdrawn. He claimed that his previous admissions were made due to incompetence on the part of his legal representatives. Despite his protests, Judge Jonathan Bennet decided to proceed with the sentencing hearing, ultimately sentencing Bradley to 11 months in prison.

During the sentencing, Judge Bennet addressed Bradley’s claims that he did not derive sexual gratification from the images, stating, “You told the author of your pre-sentence report you did not get any sexual gratification from the images. You said you find little girls cute in the same way as butterflies and puppies.” The judge was clear in his assessment, rejecting Bradley’s assertion that his interest in scientific fantasy was the sole motivation behind his actions. “This was not an isolated incident; it was a long-running obsession,” the judge remarked. He expressed skepticism about Bradley’s potential for rehabilitation, citing the extensive nature of his collection and the pattern of behavior.

Further details revealed that a neighbor had contacted the police in October 2015, expressing concern over multiple incidents suggesting Bradley’s sexual interest in children. Police responded swiftly, executing a search warrant at his residence and discovering over 47,000 images, movies, and illustrations across various categories. The investigation was reopened in 2018 after Bradley’s behavior at the Job Centre, leading to the discovery of an additional 11,000 illicit images and videos.

Bradley pleaded guilty on the day of his trial to three counts of making indecent images of children. Judge Bennet highlighted Bradley’s age, health, and personal circumstances, noting that he had not worked for several years. The judge also pointed out the personal toll of his actions, mentioning that Bradley’s wife and daughter had left him following his initial arrest, resulting in a strained family life and limited contact with his daughter. Describing Bradley as a lonely individual who spends much of his time on the computer, the judge acknowledged his passion for science fiction but emphasized the severity of his crimes and the limited prospects for rehabilitation.
