IORWERTH CYRIL GREGORY PONCIAU SEXUAL ASSAULT AT LOCAL SCHOOL

A man identified as Iorwerth Cyril Gregory has been sentenced to prison following a disturbing incident of sexual assault that took place within a primary school classroom. The assault occurred in Ponciau, where Gregory, aged 28, entered the classroom after the school day had concluded. According to court reports, he proceeded to physically assault a female teacher, who was in the process of preparing her materials for the following day’s lessons.

Witnesses and court testimonies revealed that Gregory approached the teacher in a manner that was both invasive and threatening. He stood so close to her that he was effectively touching her leg, which caused her immediate shock and distress. The teacher, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, described her reaction as one of utter disbelief and emotional turmoil. She was caught off guard when Gregory reached out and touched her right breast with his left hand, an act she characterized as 'more of a grope.'

Faced with this unexpected and unwelcome contact, the teacher froze in place, overwhelmed by fear of what Gregory might do next. She did not respond verbally but instead began to walk away from him. As she moved to leave, Gregory allegedly placed his hand on her left buttock, further violating her personal space and dignity. The incident left her visibly upset; she immediately sought refuge by confiding in two colleagues, tears streaming down her face as she recounted what had transpired.

Gregory, who was described during the trial as a vulnerable adult with his own personal difficulties, denied any sexual intent or misconduct. He claimed that he had merely followed the teacher down the classroom corridor after she stopped suddenly in front of him, asserting that he was trying to squeeze past her and that no assault had occurred. His defense suggested that his actions were innocent and unintentional.

However, the court, presided over by Judge Niclas Parry, found the evidence compelling. The judge stated that in cases where a teacher is sexually assaulted within her own classroom, only a custodial sentence is appropriate. Gregory was convicted by a jury on October 3, with a majority verdict of 10 to 2. Today, he was sentenced to nine months in prison on two counts of sexual assault. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and was prohibited from approaching within 500 yards of the victim or the school where she works, in an effort to protect her from further harm.
