HUSBAND JAILED FOR LIFE OVER WIFE’S MURDER IN CONTROLLING RAGE
Imran Khan, aged 38, received a life sentence with a minimum of 20 years after confessing to the murder of his wife, Nasreen Khan, also 38, at their residence in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport.During the proceedings at Manchester Crown Court, it was revealed that Khan stabbed Nasreen on 18 April while their five children were present in the house.
The court heard that Khan exhibited significant control over his wife and had sent her angry messages, instructing her to "leave the job" and stating, "I don’t give permission." The relationship was characterized as unstable, with frequent separations.
Khan's motives appeared to stem from his view that Nasreen’s job as a care assistant, which involved close contact with men, was "not halal." Judge Patrick Field described the attack as "merciless," criticizing Khan as a "selfish and controlling man" who contributed little to his family’s well-being and was also motivated by jealousy over his wife’s independence.
Nasreen was supported by her family and colleagues, and was recognized as a dedicated mother and proficient worker.
On the night she was killed, Khan had an argument with her, told her to leave, and then contacted his father saying, "I’ve got no choice.
I’m going to kill her and kill myself." Subsequently, Khan stabbed her multiple times in the kitchen while the children heard her screams.
After the assault, he called his father again, claiming, "I did it," before discarding the knife on the driveway and leaving the scene.
Nasreen was taken to hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
During police interviews, Khan claimed he "always loved her" and "never meant to do nothing," with his lawyer describing him as "genuinely remorseful."
