Peterborough Domestic Abuser
Imran Ali, aged 40, assaulted his partner by kicking and punching her at the back of Pak Foods and Iceland located on Lincoln Road in Peterborough around 4:10 pm on April 11. A witness observed the incident and followed the pair to a house on Windmill Street, where officers arrived and found the victim. She initially claimed she had fallen off her bike and that no one had assaulted her. Ali was also present at the house, and when police officers attempted to arrest him, he ran away but was re-arrested the following day in Lincoln Road. The victim did not sustain visible injuries. On May 21, Ali pleaded guilty to escaping lawful custody and assault and was subsequently sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court to 15 months in jail. The court also noted that he had breached a suspended sentence. DC John Pentney described the assault as "disgusting and violent" and emphasized the police's focus on domestic abuse, stating, "Dealing with domestic abuse is a force priority and we will do what we can to put offenders, such as Ali, before the courts."
