CHILD MOLESTER IAN TATE JAILED FOR 16 YEARS IN DURHAM
A man named Ian Tate, aged 48, from Trimdon Grange in County Durham, has been convicted of sexual offenses against two young girls.
He was found guilty in Durham Crown Court of committing five counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child.
Tate had denied all allegations but was ultimately sentenced to 16 years in prison.
During sentencing, Judge Nathan Adams stated that both victims had been "haunted" by Tate's actions.
The first victim, who was abused almost a decade prior, described the experience as "devastating" for her mental health, recalling feelings of "being made to feel as though the abuse was her fault." She expressed that she now understands the truth.
The second victim, abused approximately nine years after the first, described her ordeal as having "tortured" her life and said Tate "convinced" her she was to blame.
Despite Tate's protests of innocence and his lack of remorse, the judge confirmed that the abuse did indeed take place.
As part of his sentence, Tate will serve an additional year on extended license after his release, will be registered as a sex offender for life, and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order banning him from being in the company of any girl under 18 for 20 years.
