IAN GUNN, THE HUMBERTON SEX PREDATOR, JAILED AFTER REPEATED OFFENCES IN LINCOLN AND CLEETHORPES

In a series of disturbing incidents spanning several years, Ian Paul Gunn, a convicted sex offender from Humberston, has faced multiple convictions and lengthy prison sentences for his ongoing violations of legal restrictions designed to protect the public, especially children.

Gunn's latest legal troubles culminated in his appearance at Lincoln Crown Court, where he was found guilty of two counts of breaching his sexual harm prevention order (SOPO) and failing to comply with notification requirements. The court was informed that these breaches occurred on two separate occasions, despite the strict measures in place to prevent him from re-offending. The court sentenced Gunn to a total of 28 months in prison, with 18 months to be served behind bars and the remaining year on licence, reflecting the seriousness of his repeated violations.

Looking back at Gunn’s criminal history, it is evident that his pattern of offending has been persistent and troubling. In 2013, he was sentenced to three years and nine months after meeting and grooming a 14-year-old girl, engaging in sexual activity with her. This initial conviction marked the beginning of his ongoing struggle with adhering to legal restrictions meant to safeguard children from predators like him.

The following year, in 2014, Gunn was jailed for 14 months after admitting to multiple breaches of his SOPO, including failing to notify authorities of his whereabouts and details as a sex offender. During this period, he also committed five additional breaches of the sexual harm prevention order, further demonstrating his blatant disregard for the restrictions imposed upon him.

His pattern of offending persisted into October 2015, when he was again convicted of contacting children despite the restrictions. Gunn, then aged 38 and residing in Eastfield, Humberston, admitted to two offences of failing to notify his details as a sex offender and five breaches of his SOPO between July 15 and September 8 of that year. Prosecutor Bashir Ahmed highlighted that Gunn had previously been sentenced to three years and nine months in February 2013 for grooming and engaging in sexual activity with a minor. Despite being recalled to prison for breaching his licence by having contact with children and failing to inform police of his whereabouts, Gunn continued to show a blatant disregard for the law.

Judge David Tremberg condemned Gunn’s actions, emphasizing that the restrictions placed on sex offenders serve as a “crucial firewall to protect vulnerable children.” He described Gunn’s conduct as a “persistent, contemptuous disregard” for these measures, characterizing his breaches as “flagrant” and a “deliberate choice to ignore them on a wholesale basis.” As a result, Gunn was sentenced to an additional 14 months in prison.

One of the most disturbing episodes in Gunn’s criminal history occurred in July 2013, when he groomed a teenage girl via Facebook before engaging in unprotected sex with her on Cleethorpes beach. The court heard that Gunn, then 35 and living in Kingston View, Barton, had befriended the 14-year-old girl, made flattering comments, and exchanged sexually suggestive messages. The girl responded with her own suggestive remarks, and they exchanged private photographs.

On July 25, Gunn and the girl met at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre before heading to the beach, where they engaged in unprotected sexual activity. Judge Graham Robinson condemned Gunn’s behavior as “wholly unacceptable” for an adult towards a child, emphasizing that legislation exists to protect children from such exploitation. The judge described Gunn’s grooming as “pretty persistent” and labeled his conduct as “thoroughly, thoroughly, thoroughly irresponsible,” warning that such actions could have had lifelong consequences for the young girl, including pregnancy and emotional trauma.

Following his arrest and subsequent custody, Gunn was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison for these offenses. Additionally, he was subjected to an indefinite sexual offences prevention order and mandated to register as a sex offender for life.

After the court proceedings, the girl’s father expressed his feelings about the case, stating, “To me, justice has been done, but I think he should have got a lot more. It’s like a slap on the wrist to me. It’s just that these people are around and you are not aware of it. She’s only 14 years old. She’s getting treatment from the school. One minute, she is happy-go-lucky and the next minute she has gone. She clams up a lot. It’s going to bother her later in life. It’s the long-term thing I am worried about, but the school is helping her quite a lot.”
