HOWARD SEGAL CAUGHT IN EPPING FOR ONLINE SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING A 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL
Howard Segal, a resident of Station Road in Epping, became the focus of a serious criminal investigation after engaging in a disturbing online scheme involving a young girl.Over a period of several months, specifically from January to April 2018, Segal actively participated in a series of 24 online conversations with an individual he believed to be a 12-year-old girl.
During these interactions, he persistently encouraged her to partake in sexual activities, seeking personal gratification from these illicit exchanges.
Authorities from the Police Online Investigation Team meticulously tracked Segal’s online activities, which ultimately led to a warrant being executed at his residence in Epping.
On April 24, 2018, officers arrived at his home and made an arrest, seizing the opportunity to bring him into custody for questioning regarding his online conduct.
Following his arrest, Segal faced serious charges.
He was formally accused of attempting to incite a girl under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity on three separate counts.
Additionally, he was charged with one count of deliberately trying to communicate with a minor for the purpose of sexual gratification.
These charges underscored the gravity of his actions and the potential harm posed to the young victim.
In a court appearance, Segal chose to admit guilt to all charges brought against him.
His plea resulted in a sentencing hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court, where on June 28, 2019, he was sentenced to a term of 12 months in prison.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat online exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from predatory behavior.
