Southampton Ventnor Rapist
In a series of disturbing incidents spanning several years, Harry Simmonds, a man with a troubling history of sexual offenses, has once again come under scrutiny from the courts. The 24-year-old, who has been linked to both Southampton and Ventnor, was recently handed a suspended prison sentence after a string of malicious and inappropriate behaviors that have shocked the local communities.

On July 2023, Simmonds, who is known to have no fixed address but has connections to Southampton and Ventnor, was found guilty of breaching a sexual risk order and two counts of malicious communication. The court heard that on May 12, two teenage girls, aged 14 and 15, were at a bus stop near Medina College and Medina Leisure Centre on Fairlee Road when they encountered a disturbing poster. The poster displayed photographs of Simmonds, including one where he was wearing a red bra and another where he was dressed in a nappy. The message on the poster accused Simmonds of being a paedophile and claimed that he 'likes to rub himself against children.'

According to Ryan Evans, the prosecutor, the girls observed Simmonds approach them while they were taking photos. He then made unsettling remarks, telling them they could 'send the photos wherever they want.' The girls reported the incident, which led to Simmonds's arrest and subsequent guilty plea to breaching his sexual risk order on June 2. Despite being released on bail, Simmonds continued to commit further offenses during the period leading up to his sentencing.

Between June 6 and June 11, Simmonds engaged in a series of malicious communications with one of his previous victims. He sent her explicit images of himself in nappies, holding a sign that read 'I am a paedo,' along with videos in which he sprinkled chili powder on his genitals. Additionally, on June 13, he sent malicious messages to another woman, further demonstrating his reckless and harmful behavior.

During the court proceedings, Simmonds's defense argued that he had sustained a scar from an attack while incarcerated at HMP Lewes in Sussex. They suggested that if the court were to impose a suspended sentence, Simmonds could reside with his partner and her mother in West Sussex, where he could be monitored and kept away from the Isle of Wight. However, Judge Malcolm Gibney was unequivocal in condemning Simmonds's actions, describing them as 'malicious and disgusting.'

Given his history, which includes 13 counts of malicious communication involving explicit images sent to children, Simmonds's behavior has been a cause for concern for several years. His prison sentences have progressively increased since 2019, reflecting the severity of his offenses. Despite this, the judge acknowledged the risk of reoffending but decided to give Simmonds a chance for rehabilitation.

Ultimately, Simmonds was sentenced to 48 weeks in custody, but the sentence was suspended for two years. An additional condition was imposed, banning him from entering the Isle of Wight during this period. This ban aims to protect the community from further harm and prevent Simmonds from reoffending in the area.

In previous incidents, Simmonds, who has also been known as 'Baby Harry,' has appeared in court multiple times. In August 2022, he pleaded guilty to failing to comply with notification requirements of the sex offender register after moving from Southampton to Dorset without informing authorities. He was fined and ordered to pay victim surcharges and court costs. Earlier, in December 2021, he received a nine-week prison sentence for sending obscene messages to a Dorset Echo reporter, including images of himself in a nappy and claims of being a danger to the public. His history also includes a 2019 case where he was given a community order after sending inappropriate images to teenage girls, with the court warning him that this was his 'last chance.'

Throughout these incidents, Simmonds's actions have consistently demonstrated a pattern of disturbing behavior, including sending explicit images and making threats. His case remains a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in managing individuals with a history of sexual offenses, especially when they continue to pose a risk to the community.
