2014: INTRUDER JAILED FOR GRABBING AT WOMAN IN BED
A young woman was faced with ‘every woman’s nightmare’ when a burglar, Haroon Hussain (25) of Parsons Road, Redditch, entered her bedroom in the middle of the night and instead of fleeing, grabbed out at her.Hussain was caught nearby after he fled the scene and was subsequently sentenced at Warwick Crown Court to six years and two months in prison, followed by an additional five years on licence.
Although he had pleaded guilty to burgling the house in Studley, Hussain only admitted to sexually assaulting the woman on the day of his trial.
Prosecutor Sarah Allen stated that in September last year, the victim, in her 20s, had forgotten to lock her back door before going to bed.
She was woken by a noise on the landing, saw a light in another room, and then saw Hussain in her bedroom doorway.
The terrified woman jumped onto the bed and shouted at him, asking, “What are you doing here?” Instead of leaving, Hussain moved forward onto the bed and grabbed her pyjama bottoms, saying, “You’re fit, you are.” He then fled after she banged on the wall for help.
Hussain was caught further down the road, with property he had stolen.
Despite initially claiming he entered only to steal, Hussain admitted to the sexual assault during the trial.
Judge Alan Parker described the incident as ‘profoundly disturbing’ and stated that having the opportunity to run away, he chose to approach and touch her in a sexual way, making the incident ‘the nightmare of every woman.’ Gurdeep Singh Garcha, defending, mentioned Hussain expressed regret and was under the influence of alcohol that night, seeking shelter before deciding to steal.
The judge emphasized Hussain’s danger to the public and ordered him to register as a sex offender for life.
