FEMALE SOLDIER JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AFTER BOASTING SHE WOULD 'MAKE HER GAY'
A female soldier has been sentenced to seven years in prison for sexually assaulting a sleeping female colleague after claiming she would "make her gay." Lance Corporal Hannah Heslop, aged 25, was convicted following a three-day trial at Bulford Military Court in Wilts. The court was told that Heslop sexually assaulted the woman when she had fallen asleep in her bed after a night out.
Heslop had boasted to her victim during a night out with colleagues at Leconfield, Yorks., that she could "make her gay." When the other soldier fell asleep, Heslop removed her jeans and knickers.
The victim reported waking up in pain to find Heslop between her legs.
Although Heslop claimed the encounter was consensual, she was convicted of sexual assault.
During sentencing, Judge Advocate Alan Large stated, "You talked about your duty of care for her but you failed in that duty." Heslop was dismissed from the Army with disgrace and was sentenced to serve half of her seven-year jail term behind bars, with an indefinite placement on the sex offenders register.
The victim expressed emotional suffering, saying she no longer felt comfortable going out without her boyfriend, had lost confidence, and struggled with sleep, feeling all these repercussions were a direct result of Heslop's actions.
