GRANT MOUNTFORD SENTENCED IN BIGNALL END FOR SERIOUS SEXUAL OFFENCE IN STOKE-ON-TRENT

Grant Mountford, a 28-year-old man from Bignall End, has been handed a lengthy prison sentence of 15 years after being convicted of a grave sexual offence. The conviction was secured at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, where the jury reached its verdict on Monday, February 3. The court proceedings revealed the disturbing details of the case, which involved Mountford committing acts of rape, assault causing actual bodily harm, and assault by beating.

According to court reports, the victim was left in a state of extreme distress and vulnerability following the attack. She also experienced feelings of shame and fear, which compounded her trauma. The court heard that the assault had a profound psychological impact on her, leaving her petrified and deeply affected.

During the trial, the defense attempted to mitigate Mountford’s actions by pointing out that he does not have any prior convictions related to sexual offences. However, the judge, Paul Glenn, highlighted Mountford’s extensive criminal record dating back to 2011. It was also noted that these offences occurred while Mountford was under a suspended sentence, which underscored the seriousness of his criminal behavior.

Judge Glenn expressed concern over Mountford’s dangerousness, stating, “I am entirely satisfied that there is a very high risk of you causing serious harm by the commission of serious offences.” The judge further revealed that Mountford had previously assaulted his victim before raping her, indicating a pattern of violent behavior.

Following his conviction, Mountford was ordered to register as a sex offender for life. He is also prohibited from engaging in any activities involving children or vulnerable adults. His sentence consists of 11 years of imprisonment, followed by four years on licence. He will be eligible for parole after serving two-thirds of his custodial term, which is standard practice in such cases.

Mountford’s arrest was also marked by a dramatic incident when he threatened to jump off an A500 bridge, prompting police intervention. Detective Inspector Zoe Kelsall commented on the case, commending the victim for her bravery in coming forward. She also reaffirmed the police’s dedication to delivering justice and providing support to victims of sexual abuse, emphasizing the importance of community safety and victim protection.
