Grant Camilleri, 41, of Cosmic Avenue, was sentenced on Friday, 13 June, after pleading guilty to several offences, including intentional strangulation and assault by beating. As well as the custodial sentence, Camilleri was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £228 and handed a five-year restraining order to protect both victims.

“Unacceptable violence”

Investigation officer Dips Wheeler, from Bedfordshire Police’s Emerald team, said Camilleri’s actions had caused significant “distress and fear” to the women involved.“It’s good to see that Camilleri received a custodial sentence and will be the subject of a restraining order,” she said. “Domestic abuse and violence in any form is unacceptable. “I want to commend the victims for their bravery in working with officers throughout the investigation to ensure that we could bring Camilleri to justice.”The Emerald team is part of Bedfordshire Police’s specialist response to domestic abuse, providing support to victims and working with partners to reduce harm.“We know that people are living with abuse and in fear, and we want to help provide them with the confidence to walk away,” said Officer Wheeler. “Whether you are experiencing abuse yourself, or you are worried for someone you know, there is always help available.”Support is available
