HAREHILLS MAN SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
A man who engaged in prolonged sexual abuse of a young boy over several years has been sentenced to prison. Graham Sunter, aged 67 and residing on Bayswater Place in Harehills, was convicted at Leeds Crown Court after denying the charges but was found guilty following a trial.On Thursday, he was sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment with an additional one-year extended licence period. He was also ordered to wear a lifelong sexual harm prevention order and has been added to the sex offenders' register for life.
The abuse came to light when the victim came forward in 2022 to reveal the misconduct. West Yorkshire Police reported that Sunter inflicted a horrifying sequence of sexual abuse over a number of years, causing significant trauma to the victim. Detective Inspector Mark Tester from Leeds District Safeguarding Unit commented on the case, emphasizing the courage of the victim and expressing hope that the substantial sentence would offer some reassurance.
