MAN ACCUSED OF ASSAULT AND THREATENING EX-WIFE DURING ATTEMPTED THEFT OF MARRIAGE DOCUMENTS
A woman was compelled to escape through her ex-husband Godson Osia's living room window when he refused to let her leave, a court trial revealed. The victim had come to retrieve personal belongings, including her marriage certificate, but Osia tried to prevent her from leaving his Paddock home, Kirklees magistrates heard.
When she attempted to leave, Osia allegedly chased her and wrestled her to the ground to seize the documents.
Osia pleaded not guilty to two charges of assault by beating and is awaiting trial at Huddersfield court.
The incident began when Osia visited her at her residence in Fenay Bridge at 8 pm on May 10 to collect some of his possessions.
He asked her to step outside so they could discuss their failed relationship privately, but when she refused, he allegedly grabbed her wrist and tried to pull her toward his car, despite her asking him to let go.
She told magistrates she had to walk back into the house after he blocked her access and threatened her brother with violence, stating that if anyone tried to open the door, they would “end up in the ICU – if you try it somebody's going to bleed.” The victim's brother and friend assisted her in restraining Osia until police arrived and arrested him.
She also recounted that Osia pushed her into a wardrobe, preventing her from leaving, and continued to restrain her when she attempted to escape through a window.
Osia’s refusal to let her leave with her documents and his threats resulted in her brother intervening to help her.
The trial is scheduled to conclude on December 18, and Osia was granted conditional bail, with instructions not to contact the complainant.
