Rogerstone Sexual Abuser
In December 2013, Glyn Bevan, a 55-year-old teacher from Rogerstone near Newport, was disbarred following a disciplinary hearing in Cardiff over serious misconduct. Bevan, who taught at Risca Comprehensive School in Newport during the mid-1990s, had befriended teenage male pupils and invited them to his home for card games. During these visits, he supplied alcohol and drugs for his own gratification. It was revealed that he engaged in a sex act with a 14-year-old pupil.
The General Teaching Council for Wales confirmed that Bevan kept gaffer tape and ropes hidden behind his settee, which he used for a bondage fetish. Framed Polaroid photographs were discovered during the investigation, depicting Bevan and the pupils restrained with ropes and tape. Officers identified 29 pupils from Risca Comprehensive in the photographs.
The council concluded that Bevan's actions constituted unprofessional conduct and deemed him a “serious risk” to students, leading to his removal from the teaching profession.
