MAN RESPONSIBLE FOR TRAGIC MURDERS IN BENTON, DETAINED IN MENTAL HEALTH HOSPITAL
Glen Patterson was convicted of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility for the deaths of his father, Ray Patterson, aged 61, and his grandmother, Clara Patterson, aged 82, at their residence on Front Street, Benton, earlier this year.
The prosecution agreed to his plea to the lesser charge.
He is currently being held at Broadmoor's high-security hospital under section 37 of the Mental Health Act, with no fixed release date.
The bodies of Ray and Clara were initially viewed as the result of a tragic event, but further investigation confirmed Glen Patterson’s involvement, with his mental state being a key factor in the case.
The court's decision ensures he remains in a secure mental health facility due to his diminished responsibility at the time of the killings.
