GILBERT ANDREWS FROM CULLODEN RECEIVES COMMUNITY SERVICE ORDER IN INVERNESS
In September 2017, Gilbert Andrews, a man from Alltan Court, Culloden, was ordered to perform 200 hours of unpaid community service after being found in possession of more than 1,600 indecent images and videos of children.
The case was heard in Inverness Sheriff Court in June, where Andrews, a first-time offender, admitted to downloading and possessing the illicit material between March and August 2016.
During the hearing, Fiscal depute Roderick Urquhart explained that police had acted on intelligence regarding Andrews’ illegal activity, leading to the seizure of his computers.
Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald emphasized the gravity of the crimes, stating, “These are very serious and unpleasant offences,” and subsequently placed Andrews on the sex offenders register for three years.
She also ordered him to undergo social work supervision for the same period and to participate in a rehabilitation programme.
Earlier in June 2017, Andrews appeared in court again, with the case deferred until August 10 for a background report.
He once again admitted to downloading and possessing the illicit material between March and August 2016.
Defence solicitor Marc Dickson indicated he would reserve comments until sentencing.
