GERARD MARTIN CULLEN SENTENCED IN IFFLEY FOR ABUSE OF BOYS IN OXFORDSHIRE
In a case that has shocked the community of Iffley and the wider Oxfordshire area, Gerard Martin Cullen, aged 43, was handed down a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses involving two young boys.The crimes, which spanned over a period of five years from 1991 to 1996, included two counts of raping a male under the age of 16, three charges of a grave sexual nature, and five counts of indecent assault.
Gerard Martin Cullen, who resides at Aubrey Court in Iffley, was found guilty of the majority of these charges by Oxford Crown Court.
However, he was acquitted of two additional indecent assault charges.
The verdict was met with relief from law enforcement and advocacy groups, who praised the bravery of the victims for coming forward and sharing their painful experiences.
Detective Constable Steven Eaton expressed his support for the victims, stating, “The conviction of this man is a great tribute to the strength and courage the victims have shown since the start of the investigation.
Cullen betrayed their trust, and hopefully this guilty verdict will go some way toward helping them recover from the pain and trauma he has caused.” Andrew Castle, a spokesperson representing the victims, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of justice.
“After a long period of pain and uncertainty, justice has finally been proven.
Thanks again to the skills of the child protection unit of Thames Valley Police and the Crown Prosecution Service, we hope this case encourages other victims to come forward, regardless of how long they have been holding onto their memories.” As for the sentencing, Cullen received a total of eleven years in prison, with the sentences for each of the rape and serious sexual offense charges to run concurrently.
Additionally, he was sentenced to three years for each of the indecent assault charges, also to be served concurrently.
The lengthy sentence reflects the severity of his crimes and the impact on his victims, who endured his abuse over a five-year period during the early to mid-1990s.
