NORTHAMPTONSHIRE POLICE OFFICER GERARD KENNEDY JAILED FOR STALKING
A former Metropolitan Police officer has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison for stalking.
PC Gerard Kennedy, who was based in Northamptonshire, was convicted of causing serious alarm or distress through his stalking behavior earlier this year.
The victim reached out to Northamptonshire Police, which responded by visiting Kennedy's home address in Warkworth Road, Kings Sutton.
The court found Kennedy guilty of the offense, and he was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £228.
Additionally, he was subjected to a lifetime restraining order.
The case has been described by the senior investigating officer as an "extremely invasive" offense, with the officer expressing hope that the conviction provides the victim some closure.
The seriousness of Kennedy's crime is especially distressing because he was a police officer, expected to be trustworthy by the public, but instead, he chose to commit an offense that betrayed that trust.
The Met Police's Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed, and a misconduct hearing is scheduled for a later date.
